#BarcampOxford Session Notes: Get set up with an Android development environment, Dan Q

Excellent session by Dan Q to help us get set up with an Android development environment.
This is what I did:

1. Download the SDK manager for the Android version you're interested in

2. Start the SDK Manager and let it download the packages for the Android
version you're interested in.

3. Install the Eclipse ADT plugin using update site

4. Reboot Eclipse and start a new project. In Eclipse:

5. Go to Preferences > Android to set the location of your SDK manager

6. Create a new Android project (File > New > Other > Android > Android
project)

7. In the wizard, create a name, choose your target platform and a target
package name, and hit Finish

8. The project will be created and can be started straightaway. To do
that:

9. Create a new Virtual Android Device in the SDK Manager by choosing
virtual devices in the left menu and choose New. Pick a name and your
target platform and press 'CreateAVD'. Now you can create a Run
configuration from within Eclipse that uses this virtual device. In
Eclipse:

10. Choose Run > Run Configurations from the menu. Create a new
Android Application configuration. Choose your project and on the tab
Target

Barcamp Oxford is back!:)

A BarCamp is:

  • an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment.
  • an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from participants who are the main actors of the event.

BarCamps are great vehicles by which to simply explore ideas with like minded people. TransferSummit has teamed up with the team that brought you the Apache BarCamp Oxford in 2009 and Transfer BarCamp 2010 for the next exciting installment, BarCamp Oxford 2011.

This year the BarCamp will be organised by people local to Oxford in collaboration with the Apache Software Foundation and will take place on Sunday 11 September 2011. So why not stay in Oxford for a little longer and carry on the networking for no additional cost (although it does require a free registration).

For more information on the BarCampApacheOxford please see the separate BarCamp page.
